Recent reports of the detection of very high energy gamma rays
(1012 - 1016eV) from sources within the Galaxy
prompt a reexamination of the absorption expected from photon-photon
pair production. For a source such as Cygnus X-3 it is shown that the
absorption may be used to limit the distance to the source.
