Our understanding of the early stages of high mass star formation is limited. The earliest stage would be a "pre-protocluster stage", which is hard to find. There is no bona fide high mass pre-protocluster core yet! The knowledge of their properties is crucial in establishing an evolutionary paradigm and constraining any theoretical calculations on collapse. We have selected 8 candidate pre-protocluster cores from two large dust emission surveys that are massive, very dense, highly deuterated and depleted. We have obtained N2H+ 3-2 data for this sample with the SMA, and see significant sub-structure within them. Here, we propose to observe these sources with the H75+H214 configurations in the N2H+ 1-0 line. In order to understand the initial conditions, we will study the velocity structure, excitation, and stability of the cores. The proposed observations are crucial in performing detailed modeling of their internal structure.
