Auroral measurements were made over Spitzbergen using the S-180 camera and a Fabry-Perot interferometer. Rapid variations of kinetic temperature were observed which can be explained by the variations of the characteristic electron energy and the motion of auroras. The vertical temperature gradient over Spitzbergen was determined; the appearance of nonthermal profiles in faint diffuse bands was noted.
