In a sea area consisting partly of periodically drying tidal flats, the semidiurnal lunar tide, interacting with the daily variation of solar radiation, gives rise to both a beat in the amplitude of the daily water temperature cycle with a period of 14.76 d, and a variation of the daily mean temperature, with the same period. This is shown theoretically and by observation.
