The effect of Joule heating and radiation on the long-wave Bunnemann instability under conditions characteristic of the plasma of the solar atmosphere is investigated theoretically. It is shown that a significant modification of the instability threshold and increment is observed even in linear theory. Under conditions of thermal equilibrium, thermal effects are characterized by a single dimensionless parameter (determined by the current and thermal electron velocities, electron-ion frequency, and wavelength) and have a destabilizing effect.
