Usually, a three-dimensional dust cloud trapped into a plasma contains a dust-free region called void. This region can enter in an unstable state and its frontiers can oscillate. This succession of contractions and expansions is known as the heartbeat instability. This instability is investigated thanks to electrical and optical measurements that bring to the fore its complex shape. High speed video analysis is performed to correlate these measurements to the void frontier motion.
