Sensitive SOLARC imagining spectropolarimetric observations from Haleakala reveal a diffuse coronal surface brightness in the He I 1083nm line. A series of observations obtained during the last two years suggests that this signal originates from an "inner source" of neutral helium atoms in the solar corona. We argue here that this cold coronal component is likely to originate from the near-sun dust, and that there is a deficit of coronal dust close to the Sun.
