The initial-value problem, for a collapsing star perturbed linearly from its spherical symmetry is solved in a quasi-Newtonian background. There are three types of initial matter asymmetries: density asymmetries, differential rotation, and convective motion. The corresponding initial asymmetries in the metric are exhibited in terms of the three corresponding types of multipole moments.
