We present results of spectroscopic observations of C/1996 B2 Hyakutake obtained on Mar 24.5 1996. We used the Cryogenic Echelle Spectrometer (CSHELL) at the NASA-IRTF 3-m telescope using a 1 arc-second slit centered on the nucleus. The spectra to be presented are of the infrared regions near 3.0 mu m centered at 3295 cm(-1) , 3305 cm(-1) , 3320 cm(-1) , and 3335 cm(-1) with a coverage of approximately 7 cm(-1) . The spectral resolution (lambda / Delta lambda ) of CSHELL was 2 x 10(4) . These spectra sample regions which include expected cometary emission lines of the ro-vibrational spectrum of HCN, C2H2, OH, and NH3. HCN, C2H2, and OH were detected, however only an upper limit for the presence of NH3 can be determined from these spectra. Many unidentified features are present in these spectra as well. This work was supported by the NASA JOVE program, Rowan College of New Jersey, and NASA HQ.
