We propose to search for ammonia in three infrared dark clouds (IRDCs) in the Small Magellanic Cloud discovered in recent observations with the Spitzer Space Telescope. IRDCs in the Galaxy are predicted to be the precursors of high-mass star formation. Nothing is know about these clouds in other interstellar environments, especially the low-metallicity ones. Spitzer images, for the first time, provide us with the roadmap of sites of dense and cold gas likely to harbor future star formation. In this pilot project, we will observe NH_{3} (1,1) and (2,2) transitions simultaneously which will directly result in a measurement of the gas temperature, mass, and density.
