The effect of variations of interplanetary background solar-wind parameters on the state and spatial distribution of the magnetic field fluctuations in the earth's magnetosheath is discussed on the basis of the exact solution of MHD shock jump conditions. Particular attention is given to the Alfven Mach number (M1), the plasma value (beta 1), and the magnetic field (theta 1). The variation of the Mach number primarily controls the level of amplification, relative fluctuations, and the degree of anisotropy.
