The role of nonlinearity, dispersion, and nonuniformity in the evolution of packets of spiral density waves is considered. It is shown that the characteristic times of evolution of a packet determined by these effects can be considerably less than the time of its propagation through the galactic disk and must be taken into account in the interpretation of the observed spiral structure.
