The solutions to the gravitational equations for a homogeneous isotropic universe filled with a massive scalar field are investigated theoretically. Emphasis is given to the problem of universality and the conditions for the expansion of inflationary stages. It is shown that inflationary stages are an inevitable consequence of a broad class of solutions in open, closed, and dense cosmological models; the concept of spontaneous creation of the universe with subsequent inflationary stages thus does not require the fulfillment of any particularly specific conditions.
