Recently, a two day long ISR observations was made on 23 and 25 July 2006, with the aim of studying different lower mesospheric parameters in a more precise way. A test experiment was done on 21 March 2006 by transmitting 1 msec IPP pulse using a 52 usec code suitable for D-region studies. These observations revealed the disappearance of negative ions during late noon period as inferred from the broadening of the returned spectrum from altitudes below 70 km. However, this observations did not include any real time electron density measurements and so we estimated negative ion to electron density ratio by using typical values of the latter. To obtain a better signal to noise ratio and to infer realistic electron density values, we modified the operational modes for the latter observations. During the experiments performed on 23 and 25 July, we transmitted a 2 ms IPP pulse. The D-region data were collected using a 88 usec long code for 33 seconds. The coded long pulse was transmitted for 10 seconds, which can be used to determine the electron density by using plasma line measurements and can be extended down to the D-region by calibrating to its ion line data. For the spectral width determination, we fit an aliased Lorentzian shape to the backscattered signal that provides intrinsic widths. Our preliminary analysis reveals broadening of the spectra due to negative ions below 70 km till about 3:00 hrs local time and then no substantial change is noted during the later time period. We will present our initial results in this poster.
