The Space Science Institute (SSI) has a number of education programs that directly involve the science research community, including the Space Weather Center, MarsQuest Online, and Alien Earths. The research community's involvement ranges from mission support of major traveling exhibits, to small EPO research add-ons supporting web activities and "micro exhibits", to dataset access that might otherwise be difficult to obtain. In each case, the involvement of the research community is key to the success of the education program. Meanwhile, rather than being focused on particular missions or research activities, the education programs are designed to provide broad educational contexts that provide natural homes for current research results. This allows researchers to "get the word out" about their own work, while not constantly reinventing the basic science background content that is necessary for the public to make sense of the current science results. In turn, ongoing support by multiple research programs allows the education programs to continue to evolve and continue to reflect the current state of research. This talk will discuss some of SSI's ongoing education projects, their science partnerships, and how they have evolved over time.
