The detectability and damping of photoelectron-enhanced plasma lines, as measured with the EISCAT UHF radar at off-field angles are evaluated, and the measured plasma line intensities are compared to the intensities computed from modeled photoelectron fluxes. It was found that, when allowing for a pitch angle dependence in the flux, the plasma line temperatures can be predicted to within a very good accuracy at altitudes where remnants of the N2 excitation dip are no longer present in the photoelectron distribution.
