We are proposing shadowing observations of the hot gas in the Galactic halo. Unlike recent shadowing observations, we are proposing to observe compact clouds for which on- and off-cloud spectra can be extracted from a single XMM field. This technique is the only way to ensure that the contribution due to solar system X-rays is the same in the on- and off-cloud spectra. From these data, we will determine the halo's spectra and constrain its temperature and distribution. The requested observations include a target in the northern hemisphere (all existing CCD-resolution shadowing observations have been in the south). Its data will enable us to determine if the north-south asymmetry seen in other temperature regimes is present in T ~ 2e6 K gas, as well.
