Scientific paper

The paper describes a least-squares improvement of the intermediary orbital elements of Iapetus on the basis of an analytical theory developed using the Laplace method. Perturbations caused by the second zonal harmonic of the planet's potential and by attractions of external perturbating bodies are taken into account in the satellite's motion. Observations made during 1974-1984 are used to determine the orbital elements.
