Earth Magnetosphere: Sunspot Numbers, Interplanetary Magnetic Field: Orientation
Scientific paper
The association of sunspot numbers with geomagnetic activity during 1979-90 has been studied. Also, substorm energy and the orientation of interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) Bz on plasmoid formation are studied. It is revealed that sunspot numbers mildly influence geomagnetic activity during 1979-90. Plasmoid formation is found to be associated with geomagnetic activity and both southward as well as northward IMF. Plasmoid size is found to depend on the energy input into the magnetosphere.
