At the heart of NASA's Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility-Imaging (AXAF-I) lies the High Resolution Mirror Assembly (HRMA). The HRMA consists of four nested, confocal Wolter Type-I grazing incidence mirror pairs ranging in diameter from 0.7 to 1.2 meters. Because of its unusual optical design and stringent image quality requirements, novel approaches to imaging performance tolerancing and analysis have been developed in support of the HRMA thermomechanical design. Here, the methods and techniques employed to demonstrate compliance with alignment, strain, obstruction, and non-vignetting ghost image control are discussed; including tolerance flow-down methodology, finite element analysis (FEA) to ray trace coupling, and probabilistic `monte carlo' techniques.
