Recoil spectrometry with heavy ions has evolved into a rather universal IBA technique. Hydrogen is an important element in a wide variety of thin film materials. In this paper we present the capabilities of a compact ΔE(gas ionization chamber) - Eres(solid) telescope for simultaneous light and medium heavy element detection. To increase the resolution an integrated preamplifier was mounted close to the ionization chamber. To achieve the simultaneous detection of very light elements (H and He) and of the heavier ones (C, O, Mg, Al) the two outputs from the preamplifier were fed into two main amplifiers, operated with high and low gain, respectively. The calibration procedure for the telescope and the software for the quantitative evaluation of the data are briefly presented. The results obtained in some ERDA measurements using a 63Cu beam from the FN tandem accelerator of NIPNE are also presented.
