In this analysis, the generation of surface waves in the plasmapause is
considered a consequence of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. It is
shown that in this idealization the plasmapause could be the source of
the very long period pulsations, while the magnetopause might be the
source of the shortwave fluctuations.
