The equation of state of hydrogen is important for planetary science, Astrophysics, and ICF. Several theories which predict the dissociation and metallization of hydrogen also predict very different values for the compressibility of hydrogen in the 1-2 Mbar region. We have measured the equation of state of H2 and D2 along the principle Hugoniot up to 2 Mbars using the NOVA laser. The compression, shock velocity, and pusher velocity were measured with side on radiography. We determined the in flight shock color temperature and emissivity by measuring the spectral radiance at several discrete wavelengths and fitting the data to a gray body. These data help guide our understanding of the basic physics leading to dissociation and metallization of hydrogen at high pressures which is relevant to the complex isentrope of Jupiter and enhance our predictive capabilities for ignition targets on the NIF.
