Results from laboratory studies (Adamkovics and Boering, JGR 2003) are used to evaluate the photochemical models for the giant planets and Titan. The laboratory data measures the time-evolution of gas-phase hydrocarbon species H2, C2H2, C2H4, C2H6, C3H4, C4H2 and C4H10 during UV irradiation of CH4. A one-box photochemical model is used to simulate the experiment, and different photochemical schemes (Moses et al., Icarus 2000; Moses et al., JGR 2005) are compared and modified to reproduce the laboratory results. The improved photochemical kinetics will be helpful in improving photochemical models of Titan and other giant planets.
