In the millisecond sampletime range, data is usually formatted ina multiline format that, for timing only reasons, can be used at the 1024 kbps data transmission rate. Consequently, the science tape recorder cannot be used for data collections longer than ~20 minutes. The HSP team and STScI have developed a method that Would permit the use of the science tape recorder at the 32 kbps data recording rate and as a result greatly extend the duration of these types of data collections. This has particular importance for those types of HSP data collections that require contiguous data for extended periods of time (on the order of a few hours). The purpose of this proposal is to test this capability and make sure the fix works as intended.
