Multiphoton Ionization And Excitation To Highly Excited States

Scientific paper

We have studied double ionization of Ba 6sn=13, 14l Rydberg states
through resonant two-photon excitation of 8snl double Rydberg states.
The laser intensity dependence of the measured Ba++ yield shows evidence
of the direct double ionization process due to the planetary character
of the intermediate 8snl states with l>=10.
