Diffuse X-ray emission is predicted by models of planetary nebulae formation and evolution and each observation provides valuable tests and feedback to update the models. We propose a 26 ks observation of NGC 6369, a large (˜22" diameter), nearby(˜0.65 kpc), planetary nebula with low extinction(E_B-V ˜1.2) an optimal combination for an XMM-Newton observation. This well-studied planetary nebula, shares many physical characteristics with the PNe that have known diffuse X-ray emission, thus we believe a positive detection is likely. Our goal is to discover diffuse X-ray emission from the shock-heated gas within the nebula. We relied on the updated models for the justification and feasibility of the proposed observation, hence putting the most recent models to the first blind test.
