Solar Telescopes: Solar Spectrum

The large horizontal solar telescope of the Main Astronomical Observatory, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine installed at the Terskol high-altitude station near the Elbrus mountain is described. The telescope (the principal mirror diameter is 65 cm, the focal length is 17.5 m) is equipped with a five-camera spectrograph for photographic sepctral observations of active regions in the solar atmosphere and for photoelectric measurements of the solar spectrum with high spectral and spatial resolution. The authors present the results of spectrum quality investigations as well as of first measurements.
