In a Hall effect thruster discharge, the behaviour of the hollow cathode presents a static behaviour by its potential, emitted current, initial energy of electrons, and consumption of xenon. There is also a dynamical behaviour defined by oscillations of current and potential, due to the main discharge fluctuations. The electron transport from the cathode to the anode remains still misunderstood. First, it was interesting to study the behaviour of a hollow cathode alone, in diode regime without all fluctuations of the stationary plasma thruster discharge current. A second investigation of coupling between hollow cathode and HET was carried out. This article presents some results about these different aspects. Measurements have been mainly performed by means of Langmuir probes with time average and also time resolved method.
