Hinode, the ISAS/JAXA solar observatory, is currently observing the same region of the solar surface simultaneously in optical, extreme ultraviolet and X-ray wavelengths, tracking changes from the photosphere to the corona. Already the mission has uncovered new processes in jet formation, strong indications of Alfvén waves, and the source of the slow solar wind, to name but three areas of interest. Hinode has also detected changes in the solar magnetic field before major outbursts that may aid space-weather prediction.
