The paper gives an analytical solution to the problem of the eccentric motion of a satellite about a planet with the sun as the only source of perturbations, and the results are applied to the case of Neptune's moon, Nereid, whose eccentricity is 0.75 and exceeds the radius of convergence of expansions in the two-body problem. First, the Von Zeipel averaging method is applied in establishing the equations of secular motion while considering only the ratio of the average motions of the planet and the satellite as small parameters. Then the particular case of Nereid is studied, where the inclination can also be treated as a small quantity. A solution up to the second order of the inclination is obtained.
