Mauna Loa Observatory (MLO) (19.35 deg N, 155.58 deg W, altitude 3.4km), on the big island of Hawaii, is a primary site of the Network for Detection of Stratospheric Change (NDSC). Since November, 1991, a high resolution Fourier transform spectrometer system has been operating on a limited basis collecting spectra in the mid infrared from 750 to 1250 cm-1 (8 to 13 mu m) and 2400 to 3050 cm -1 (3.3 to 4.2 mu m) one sunrise per week. Total column amounts of HC1, HNO3, O3 and N2O are currently processed routinely. The solar spectrometer used in this study is a slightly modified Bomem model DA3.002 Michelson interferometer. Most of the spectra collected routinely were obtained at .005 cm-1 resolution. The column amounts of HNO3, O3 and other molecules are recovered from the spectra using the personal computer version of the nonlinear least squares routine. The column of a particular molecule is adjusted by multiplying a starting profile by a scaling factor. Radiosonde data from Hilo, Hawaii was merged with a standard atmosphere for temperature and pressure profiles.
