We propose an in-depth study of the stellar population in the very young open cluster NGC 2244. Based on high-resolution imaging with MOSAIC at the 0.9m telescope we intend to identify and classify so far unidentified X-ray emitting late-type star cluster members. These observations will also allow us to study in detail the low-mass part of the cluster's initial mass function. Furthermore, we will be able to investigate the relation between the stellar cluster and the surrounding Rosette nebula.
