High-latitude large-scale convection is modeled as a function of assumed field-aligned currents representative of various geophysical conditions. A possible evolution of the convective patterns as IMF changes from being persistently southward to persistently northward is shown either to proceed directly from a two-cell to a four-cell configuration or via a three-cell pattern.
