Recent HF radar studies have demonstrated that high wavenumber Pc4-5 ULF waves may be frequently observed at auroral latitudes. These are largely shielded from ground magnetometers and are generated by the drift or bounce resonance interaction with energetic substorm-injected protons, although the exact mechanism is not yet clear. We present observations of a high wavenumber ULF wave event, observed for some hours in the local morning sector by the CUTLASS radar whilst operating in a high time resolution mode, and on the ground with the IMAGE ground magnetometer array. The waves have similar spectral properties in radar and magnetometer data, and are generated near the equatorward edge of the auroral oval. The waves were also recorded by a vertical incidence HF Doppler sounder, while an enhancement of the 20 keV proton population was observed by the nearby LANL and POLAR spacecraft. These are possibly the most complete observations of such a pulsation event, and are compared with model predictions of wave generation via the bounce and drift bounce resonance interactions with drifting energetic protons.
