Liquid-helium cryostats were developed for use on spacecraft. The design utilizes a phase separator to prevent escape of the liquid from the helium volume and a special neck bracket to decrease gas convection during attitude changes in space. Two cryostat models, the KKR-4 with He volume of 1.8 liters and the Obzor-K with a 10-liter volume, were tested in the laboratory and on board Kosmos satellites.
