The injection of heat and helicity into the solar corona by the dissipation of magnetic-loop currents is considered theoretically. The derivation of the model on the basis of the relaxation theory of Taylor (1974, 1975, and 1976) is explained, and numerical results are presented in graphs. The applicability of the model to a laboratory spheromak plasma is indicated.
