While the calculation of rho, the ratio of bound-state to continuum beta-decay for Re-187, is pertinent to the estimation of the Galaxy's age on the basis of beta-decay half-life, this half-life remains uncertain both in theory and experiment due to the possibility of bound-state beta decay. The presently obtained results for rho, using the Hartree-Fock-Dirac single-configuration and the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock approximations, support the conclusions of Williams et al. (1984), which arrived at a rho value of the order of 1 percent on the basis of a modified Thomas-Fermi model.
