The 283 s pulsation of 4U 0900-40 (Vela X-1) has been observed at high X-ray energies (not less than 18 keV). Time-averaged light curves with simple double peak structures are detected up to about 70 keV. Individual pulse trains could be observed in the energy range 18-50 keV. Significant pulse-to-pulse variations have been found with respect to pulse intensity. The photon number spectrum can be described by a thermal bremsstrahlung law which has kT about 10 keV for energies above 30 keV but shows a cutoff below this energy. The spectral shape is stable and independent of source intensity during our observations.
