Fine time structure is found in hard X-ray observations of solar flares. To explain the temporal evolution of hard X-ray flux and polarization degree, we present a time-dependent solution of the electron kinetic equation. We assume a non-thermal thick-target model for hard X-rays in a uniform magnetic field and homogeneous medium. Analytical expressions are obtained for a rectangular injection electron impulse and applied to an estimate of hard X-ray bremsstrahlung characteristics. We emphasize the difference in shape between the injection impulse and the X-ray response profiles. X-ray flux and polarization degree vary with time.
