Bryce DeWitt, in the late 60's, was the first to point out the importance of boundary conditions in the Hamiltonian formulation of general relativity for spatially open universes. Later, mainly due to the work of Regge and Teitelboim, the correct Hamiltonian formulation of general relativity for asymptotically flat spacetimes was obtained which consistently incorporated these boundary conditions. In this talk we will extend the above work to obtain a consistent phase space formulation of interacting Einstein-Yang-Mills fields in asymptotically flat spacetimes. We will achieve this by imposing certain physically reasonable asymptotic boundary conditions on the phase space variables. In doing so we will derive the correct Hamiltonian for the Einstein-Yang-Mills fields. Using these results some of the asymptotic conservation laws admitted by these models will be discussed.
