Halation effects in microchannel plate intensifiers are discussed. It is
shown that infilling of line profiles observed in absorption-line
spectra taken with four-stage magnetically focused intensifiers cannot
be explained by such a mechanism. It is suggested that slow phosphor
decay may instead be a cause of the infilling.
