We obtain normal mode solutions for ideal, fully compressible magnetohydrodynamic waves propagating parallel to the direction of the magnetic field in the Harris neutral sheet. Recent observations by ISEE-3 in the distant geomagnetic tail of oscillatory structure at the outer edge of the current sheet are in close agreement with our conclusions.
