On October 17, 2008, the Cassini spacecraft encountered a source region of Saturn kilometric radiation (SKR) allowing in situ measurements of wave intensity and polarization, as well as the electron phase space density. The dominant emission is right-hand extraordinary (R-X) mode, but in addition, there is clear evidence of weaker left-hand ordinary (L-O) mode mission. The L-O mode occurs in narrow-banded frequency ranges for frequencies greater than the local cyclotron frequency. In this study we concentrate on the L-O mode emission, seeking to account for the observed frequency ranges and intensity relative to the R-X mode.
