The authors present one example of about 30 multi-slit spectra obtained during two weeks of observing time at the ESO 1 m telescope. This novel observing technique allows to take about 60 spectra at different locations in the 25 arcmin field of the ESO 1 m telescope simultaneously, which results in a great saving of observing time. The spectra will allow to derive scalelengths and column densities of the main cometary ions. The ion emissions are not only present in the tail streamers but almost everywhere in the cometary coma. some unidentified ion feature around 412 nm, is attributed to CO2+.
