This paper presents the greedy search technique used by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Science Planning and Scheduling System to automatically schedule HST activities on weekly calendars. Given a set of possible observations to schedule in a week, this technique determines the best time ordering of observations which would maximize the scheduling efficiency or total science time in a calendar. The HST observation constraints that strongly influence the search heuristics and the process that produce HST flight calendars are also described in detail.
