The details of the implementation of the great circle reduction software in both the Fundamental Astronomy by Space Techniques (FAST) consortium and the Northern Data Analysis Consortium (NDAC) teams, for the Hipparcos data processing, are presented. The results of simulations carried out with the great circle reduction software, are included. These simulations indicate the results expected for the precision of the star abscissae along the reference great circles, as a function of star magnitude, both with and without attitude smoothing. The parameters describing the transformation between geometrical sky and instrument coordinates as a function of star color, grid position and time, are also given.
