All-sky images from São João do Cariri (7.4° S, 36.5° W), Brazil, in the OH, O-2 and OI 630 nm airglow emissions from September 2000 to August 2001 are analyzed in order to investigate if the gravity waves observed in the mesosphere region can propagate to altitudes of ~200-400 km and above and acts as seeding to Rayleigh-Taylor instability responsible for ESF phenomena. In this study we select only images obtained immediately after sunset. We present all-sky images in the OI 630.0 nm emission showing that bottom-type irregularities sometimes occur in patches arranged periodically in the zonal direction. These periodicities probably are caused by large-scale (l ~ 30 km) waves. Also, we discuss qualitatively that how much gravity waves can deviate from the zonal direction in seeding the R-T instability.
