A formula is obtained for the gravity of a standard earth represented as a uniform nonlevel ellipsoid of revolution with a geocentric constant equal to that of the real earth. Expressions are derived for the gravity at the equator and the poles. A formula is given which expresses the exact distribution of gravity at the surface of a standard earth given in the form of a nonlevel ellipsoid of revolution. Numerical results are compared for level and nonlevel ellipsoids with equal geocentric constants. These results show that the gravity field of a standard earth represented as a nonlevel ellipsoid of revolution is clearly asymmetric relative to that calculated for an ellipsoid of revolution with a level surface.
