An analysis is made of artificial ionospheric irregularities produced by ejections of plasma-forming or plasma-quenching substances during spacecraft launches. The instability increment and eigenfunctions are calculated for the injection of a plasma cloud into the ionosphere. It is concluded that the proposed approach can be used to effectively investigate artificial ionospheric irregularities (plasma clouds or ionospheric 'holes') associated with spacecraft launches.
